A Special Southwest Bedroom For Rusty

Our grandson loves to visit his Grandpa and I here in Texas.  With all our own children grown, my husband  and I have the time and money we need to make Rusty feel special.  What fun!  We decided since Rusty loves going to western musicals, watch old western movies on Turner Classic and visit museums that teach about the lives of cowboys and Indians that roamed the western plains, we would decorate our guest room before he arrives to spend the summer with us, with a western theme.

As we began this exciting project,  we looked for anything that could be used to charm a fourteen year old boy.  For starters,  we decided to paint the walls of the bedroom a spicy paprika color.  With results that delighted us, our next step was to purchase new furniture for the room.  We chose rustic log furniture made from roughly hewned pine logs knowing it would last a lifetime.  The chunky wood bed, night stand and dresser looked so masculine.  We chose to leave it a natural color pine.  The last piece we purchased was a matching bookcase.  Rusty loves to read.

We were off to a good start and each night as we rested in bed,  my husband and I talked over plans we had to make our special “cowboy” feel at home.  We still had two months to go till our grandson arrived so we  poured over southwest decor magazines to get fresh and exciting ideas.
