Rusty’s Southwestern Room

The southwestern theme room my husband and I are creating for our grandson’s summer stay with us, is  coming right along.  With less than two months to go, we had the walls in our guest room painted and the unique log furniture purchased. Now was the fun time of collecting and  adding western touches.  We browsed antique stores, second hand stores and went to rummage sales looking for any odds and ends that we could use to decorate.

At a rummage sale,  we bought a pair of cowboy boots for a dollar.  Grandpa decided these would make great and unusual bookends for Rusty’s new collection of summer reading materials.  We would fill them with plaster and use them on the bookcase.  We had found numerous Louis L’Amour paperback books at a second hand store as well as a few coffee table Indian chiefs, hardback books about the wild wild west and famous Indian chiefs.

We used an old cowboy lariat and a bull whip as focal points above the two nightstands.  A friend of ours is an awesome mural painter so he offered his services and painted one wall with an incredible cattle drive scene.   The southwestern look was beginning to take shape.  As the days went by, we grew more and more excited, not only because Rusty was coming to visit but because our special project was rapidly advancing.
