Wool Tapestry Pillow Covers: Yaqui Design

I love having variety in my life.  Maybe it comes from growing up an Army kid and never staying in the same place for very long.  Or maybe it’s just something in my personality.  I’m not too sure.  Now that I am married and my husband and I are very settled and love our San Diego ocean view home,  I still get the urge once in a while to rearrange furniture or change my surroundings.  Here’s what I do.

I found a great way to redecorate our den, giving it a “face lift” without doing anything except changing a few decorative pieces.  Every few months,  I purchase wool pillow covers in different patterns and colors to stuff and place on our large black leather sofa and love seat.  This month,  I chose the Yaqui design.  It’s red and black pattern looks stunning in a den.  It’s hand made of woven wool.  The excellent craftsmanship tells me these will last a lifetime.  I use lovely wool rugs in the same color tones and texture to add brightness to the walnut wooden plank floor and pull the look together.

With a fresh vase of flowers on the coffee table (red roses this month) and a black wooden bowl of shiny red apples, the flow of the red and black is very welcoming.  We brought out some of our favorite Indian artifacts to place on our mantle above the fireplace.  This compliments the southwest Native American look of the Yaqui design on the pillow covers.  So for “now”  I am pleased with the subtle changes in our den.  Until next time…smile!
