Mexican Style Kitchens Add Warmth To Southwest Decorating

If you are interested in spicing up your southwest kitchen, a great way to do it is by adding a few Mexican touches. If possible, consider installing new kitchen flooring to reflect one of the popular material choices in Mexico, such as tile or stone. If installing a new floor is not in your budget, then consider placing a brightly colored throw rug in front of the sink area. Geometric patterns work wonderfully. Remove any heavy window treatments that may be covering the windows and instead install window treatments that are bright and cheerful reflecting a happy tone for the room. Unusual items such as a Mexican serape could be used as a creative window covering.

Be sure to add plenty of accessories from south of the border as well, such as Mexican pottery, baskets and hand woven items. These can be placed charmingly on shelves, along the countertops and on the kitchen table itself to create a look that is cozy and welcoming. Mexican women are always busy preparing a special treat in their southwest kitchen creating delicious aromas that fill the home. You too should be prepared ahead of time with special goodies to create a warm and friendly welcome for guests.
