Decorate Your Southwest Bedroom With A Mexican Touch
Are you interested in bringing the southwest into your bedroom? Whether its a guest room or a master bedroom, there’s no better way to make it feel welcoming and warm than with south of the border touches. Begin by choosing colors that are strong and spicy, such as bright reds, oranges, greens, blues and yellows. Be sure to place plenty of flowers and greenery around the room and use Mexican pottery as a vase to hold the flowers. Add a kiva ladder and hang ceramic birds from the ceiling.
For window treatments, consider using a woven serape or mini blinds with a bright valance. Add colorful woven rugs to the floor and geometric patterned bedding. You may even wish to place a woven runner across the bottom of your bed for adding an interesting layered and textured look. Plenty of accent pillows should adorn your wrought iron or mission log bed and pillows covered in animal hide look fantastic. Artwork for the walls could be scenes of Mexican pueblos.

Your Southwest Mantle Will Display Your Personality
If you are fortunate enough to have a fireplace adorning your southwestern room, you may wonder what steps should be taken or how to proceed when decorating the mantle. A southwest mantle becomes a main focal point in the room and is an exciting area to display favorite pieces of art or personal collections. There are many different options you may choose from and with a bit of creativity, your mantle will become a favorite area of your home.
You might choose to add a collection of similar items, such as small pieces of Mexican pottery or woven Native American baskets. The mantle would also be an ideal place to display a collection of religious statues which are ever so popular in the southwest decorating. Other ideas would be items from nature or a collection of rustic ranch items or a company of antique hand made Mexican dolls.
Southwestern decorating can be as formal or informal as you choose; so base selections for your mantle top on the type of mood that you want to invoke in the room as a whole. The display could be changed seasonally to reflect on a different aspect of your intriguing personality.
